We are now on the final part of our discussion on how to manage your energy. This topic was inspired by Darren Hardy, former publisher of SUCCESS Magazine, through one of his video presentations.
In the last two articles, I wrote about the importance of managing our Physical Energy and our Mental Energy. Now, I will go over the importance of managing these last two areas: Emotional and Spiritual.
When it comes to your Emotional Energy, you need to make yourself your top priority, become selfish. It is the best thing you can do, not only for yourself, but also for the people around you.
That is the reason why on an airplane they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first when emergencies occur. Even God wants you to take care of you first. Look up 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 and realize how sacred our bodies are. Don’t sacrifice yourself to save everyone else. Take care of yourself first.
Jim Rohn has also said, “You take care of you for me and I’ll take care of me for you.” I know this is not easy to do for many people based on the way we are raised. I have found it very hard to do myself. Being the oldest of four siblings, I have always been the one responsible for everyone else, which resulted to a lot in stress and worry growing up.

It wasn’t until a couple of years ago when I realized that the healthier way is to attend my needs first before anyone else’s. I used to have a very hard time putting myself first and asking for help would even make me feel guilty.
But over the course of time, I have learned to pay much attention to my emotional needs and have become more aware of when I am emotionally low. When I feel this way, I do things to raise my emotional energy and I tell my students to do the same thing.
If you feel emotionally low, go for a drive to the other side of town. Go to a children’s hospital or a women’s center and volunteer to do things that are out of your “norm.” Soon you will realize that any problem or issue you thought you had was nothing but a blessing to help you grow.
This is exactly what one of my students, Rich, did from Arizona. Rich was feeling down and felt like he was not where he wanted to be with his real estate business. He remembered my advice to take a break and do something else until he felt better.
He picked up his tools, which he has used a contractor for many years, and went down the street to see if an elderly neighbor living alone needed anything. He said that was the best thing he has done. Not only did he help someone out with some minor repairs they needed around the house and yard, but he also had fun doing it.
This elderly lady told him stories of when she was a young child in Germany during the war and the hardships she went through before and after she came to the United States. Rich was able to recharge his emotional energy this way and was ready to go back and take more action in his real estate business.
Remember, you can make a huge difference in the lives of others when you are at your very best and sometimes, all we need is just a little break from the norm in order for us to get back on our feet.
The next major area we should pay attention to is our Spiritual Energy. You need to feel that what you are doing matters. You don’t have to be Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King or Gandhi to feel that what you are doing matters.
Identify your core values. You can then feel the significance you can make when you interact with people through your values. We all want to do things for the greater good to make us feel like our lives have meaning and significance. We need to live in alignment. When what you do on the outside aligns with your values on the inside, then you have spiritual alignment.
It’s at that point when your spiritual energy inside you is at full ignition. Something I usually do is to be conscious of what I say and what others say. I believe that our words have power so when I hear someone say something or talk about someone negatively, I stop them and make them aware of it.
It’s something small but it’s a way for me to feel aligned with my core beliefs and also help people that come across my path.
Lastly, a great tip that we can all use to help us with our energy is to simplify our lives and go lean. Get rid of the unnecessary – in your closet, your office, car and even in your body. This will help your energy from getting depleted.
Just like apps on your cell phone that take up space and use your battery, when we delete them, we free up space and our battery last longer. It’s the same concept with the things we allow around us.
Let’s all pay more attention to these areas in our lives that can help us manage our energy better and help us perform and be the best we can be.
To your success,
